Long before the Internet… indeed, long before electricity and long before hotels were in vogue… there were mysterious service providers whose sole purpose was to ensure the comfort and delight of visitors to their masters’ palaces.  They carried candles to illuminate the way and they alone possessed a full set of keys, uniquely enabling them to open every door. Who were these trusted confidantes?  They were concierges.

Since the middle ages, concierges have been providing discreet, exceptional service to travelers.  When European palaces were converted into hotels, the “keeper of the keys” remained an important position.  Understanding that visitors had onward travel plans, a network was established to communicate travelers’ preferences and desires.

Thanks to the storied history of hotel concierges, today, the word concierge can be found everywhere and is synonymous with exceptional service.
